The band finished a three-week tour opening for Australian rockers Wolfmother on December 9, 2006, and have toured with OK Go and Snow Patrol on their U.S. This culminated in frequent touring, including a co-headlining stint with Viva Voce. clubs and began to draw a strong following upon the release of the Pikul EP. They got their start in many of the most important L.A. Their first break came when a friend mailed a boombox demo to CMJ and they were accepted. Silversun Pickups claim they have been heavily influenced by Modest Mouse and The Velvet Underground as well as other lesser-known acts. Silversun Pickups have been compared to The Smashing Pumpkins (possibly due in part to Brian Aubert's vocal style) and 90's shoegazing bands like My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Ride, and Slowdive. In 2009, they managed their third top 10 on the chart, "Panic Switch" (#1) and a fourth song "Substitution" was also on that chart (#23). The band managed two Top 10 singles on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2007: "Lazy Eye" (#5) and "Well Thought Out Twinkles" (#9). The band has released four albums, 2006's "Carnavas", 2009's "Swoon", 2012's "Neck of the Woods" and 2015's "Better Nature". They released their debut EP "Pikul" in July of 2005. The band is signed to Dangerbird Records. One of the band’s friends would often arrive at the store late at night to buy liquor, and would be as such making the "Silversun Pickup". The name Silversun Pickups refers to a liquor store across the road L.A. The band members are friends who had played together previously or in mutual friends' bands. The band consists of Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar), Nikki Monninger (bass, vocals), Joe Lester (keyboards) and Christopher Guanlao (drums).

Written by: Brian Aubert, Christopher Guanlao, Garret Lee, Joseph Lester, Nicole Monninger I won't sleep again til' I here it come to the end No mistake, this ghost in me has found a home Decide for yourself if you are team tingly prostate or team shatter. You set me up when you wake the ghost in me, That negative noise is not bro-namous as far as I'm concerned.Ĭheck it out. Or like at the 2.20 part on 'Ragamuffin', where the song abruptly transforms into what I swear is a sample for the XX album.Īnd it's just these little parts that are sprinkled all over the album that I'd think make it impossible for anybody to shat on. Sections, like on 'Tape Deck', where the sound phases from crisp to muddy and back to crisp. There are so many sounds on the album that enhance these dips or rises. keep my prostate at full swell.Īnd if it weren't for the production (or girth) everything I wrote above would fall flat. The changes in tempo, volume, density, etc. Whether it's enough time to properly build to a climax, or to texturize the song so that its Soundcloud sound-wave-bar would look like an awesome roller coaster you'd wait in line to ride with chubby people who smell like nacho cheese and B.O. The tracks take a perfect amount of time to satisfy every part of me that needs satisfying.

So, I queued it up one more time.this time for a critical listen, and in general, I gotta say that I love their length and their girth. How the fuck did that happen? Maybe I do know this album better than I thought I did. I guess those later tracks must've seeped into my subconscious because if last night somebody asked my opinion about Better Nature I'd plead ignorance, yet, this morning (one full listen later) I found myself singing the lyrics on the 9th track. What started off as me enjoying the first two tracks and letting the album play out in the background while I worked, turned into a full-fledged appreciation. And I'm not sure I understand all that negative noise. Now, I'm not sure how Better Nature found its way on to my playlist a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't until this morning when I realized that I've been listening to the fuck out it. Shamefully, the only song I really know is 'Lazy Eye' and that is because I rocked the shit of it on Guitar Hero like 10 years ago.Īnd while I always try to tune out other reviews of albums because I don't want them to taint my taint-brations, shit comes across my social-media feeds and I can't help but noticing this album is getting shat all over. Simply because I just never sat down and listened to them. I'm going to admit to never being a Silversun Pickups fan.
